Lorne DeLarge
for saanich council
Respect. Responsibility. Results.
I am running for Saanich Council to bring practical leadership, fiscal responsibility, transparent decision-making, respectful planning, and strong environmental stewardship to local government.
Residents deserve a Council that listens, protects neighbourhoods, manages taxpayer dollars responsibly, and plans thoughtfully for the future.
Priorities
Responsible Spending
Minimal to no tax increases.
Prioritizing spending on core services, infrastructure maintenance, parks, police and fire, and recreation.
Greater financial accountability and oversight for major municipal projects.
No major borrowing without voter approval through referendums.
A comprehensive “Core Review” of municipal operations, priorities, and staffing levels to ensure efficiency and value for taxpayers.
Transparent Decision-Making
Open, respectful, and inclusive public engagement.
Meaningful town halls and documented community consultation.
Unbiased public surveys to gather input before major decisions are finalized.
Increased transparency and accountability at Council.
Establishing a Lobbyist Registry so residents know who is meeting with Council and staff
Efficient Roads
Transportation policies based on practicality rather than ideology.
Balanced transportation planning that supports vehicles, cycling, walking, transit, and accessibility.
Reducing policies that unnecessarily create congestion, add to Greenhouse gases through excessive idling and traffic jams or negatively impact neighbourhoods.
Transportation projects that fit within realistic budgets.
Improved safety, accessibility, and emergency vehicle access throughout Saanich.
Smart Development
Neighbourhood-centred planning that balances growth with livability.
Development policies that protect the environment and respect existing communities.
Meaningful public engagement to review and rewrite the Official Community Plan.
Protecting local decision-making authority from excessive provincial overreach.
Continuing to protect Saanich’s heritage buildings and community character.
Protected Green Space
Strong environmental protections integrated into all major planning decisions.
Protecting and restoring Garry Oak ecosystems and other environmentally sensitive areas.
Revising the Tree Protection Bylaw to strengthen protections for mature and protected trees.
Redrafting the Environmental Development Permit Area (EDPA) Bylaw.
Re-establishing the Resilient Saanich Technical Committee to provide expert oversight for sensitive environmental areas.
Safeguarding watersheds and natural ecosystems for future generations.
